Pilates is an exercise programme combining elements of martial arts, yoga and gymnastics. It works by strengthening the core postural muscles of the body, rebalancing the body and bringing it back into correct alignment.
Over the past 10 years Pilates has gone from being available to only an elite few, to being an essential part of modern life for millions. The exercises are suitable for everyone and benefits are felt by those who are new to exercise as well as sporting athletes.
By working all your muscles, even the deeper underlying ones that work to support your posture, you will slowly correct faulty movement patterns in the body, enable your muscles to be at the right length and strength to support your joints in the correct posture we all admire in children. In turn this helps to reduce the amount of wear and tear the joints suffer as we age.
Pilates also strengthens the deep stablising muscles of the trunk, making it ideal for the prevention and treatment of back problems – one of the reasons why Pilates enjoys unique support from the medical profession and is at the leading edge of sports medicine today.
You can attend classes in Broadway, Stanton or Moreton in Marsh.
